Managing Household Chores as a Team

Turn chores into calendar events so everyone knows what needs doing and when. Build a fairer, calmer home with Zawly.

Managing Household Chores as a Team

Chores don't have to be a source of friction. When everyone can see what needs doing on the shared calendar, it becomes a team effort rather than a parent's nagging list.

Why Calendar-Based Chores Work

Adding chores to Zawly's shared calendar means:

  • No more "I forgot" — it's on the calendar
  • Everyone sees who is doing what
  • Kids learn to check the plan themselves

Setting Up Recurring Chore Events

  1. Go to Calendar and click on a day.
  2. Add an event like "Empty Dishwasher — Sam".
  3. Set Recurrence to match how often it happens:
    • Daily for things like dishwasher, wiping surfaces
    • Weekly for hoovering, changing bedsheets
    • Bi-weekly for bigger jobs like window cleaning
  4. Add a note: any specific instructions or checklist items.
  5. Save — it appears for everyone on the assigned days.

Different Chores for Different People

Create separate events for each family member:

  • "Mow the Lawn — Dad" (Weekly, Saturday morning)
  • "Hoover Downstairs — Emma" (Weekly, Thursday after school)
  • "Clean Bathroom — Kids Rotation" (Weekly, Sunday)

Tracking Chore-Related Expenses

Some chores cost money. In Expenses:

  1. Click Add Transaction and choose Expense.
  2. Select a category like "Cleaning Supplies" or "Garden".
  3. Add the amount and what it was for.
  4. Save — now you know how much the household costs to run.

Reviewing Chore Completion

Each week, check the Dashboard to see:

  • Which chore events were completed
  • If any were missed (they'll still show on the calendar)
  • Whether the family wants to swap or adjust routines

Making It Feel Fair

When chores are visible to everyone:

  • No one person ends up doing everything
  • Kids see the full picture of household work
  • It's easier to negotiate swaps and changes

A shared calendar turns "your chores" into "our home".
